Landscaping in Noble Park, built around the trees you already have

We do landscaping in Noble Park from our yard in Clayton South, about ten minutes up the Princes Highway. New lawns, paving and garden beds, mostly in gardens that have been there for fifty or sixty years. That age is the thing to plan around here: a lot of Noble Park blocks come with a big tree, a tired lawn under it and paths that have moved, and the tree has rules of its own.

I'm Michael. Regal Landscaping is a family business, we've been going since 2013, and we hold 5.0 stars from 60+ Google reviews. I walk every yard myself before I price it. Quotes are free and there's no call-out fee. Call 0489 952 492 or send a couple of photos through the quote form.

Our work around Noble Park

Our most recent Noble Park job wrapped up at the end of last year, and we've finished work next door in Springvale and quoted in Keysborough and Noble Park North. It's a part of Melbourne we drive through most weeks, so you won't be waiting on a crew from the other side of town.

What people ask us for here is practical: a lawn that has given up under a tree, a side path that has cracked and tilted, garden beds that are more couch grass than plants. The fix is usually a combination of the three, done in the right order, which is why one crew doing the whole yard works better than three trades turning up on different weeks.

Out of respect for the owners, we never publish an address or a photo that points to a particular house. Suburb only, here and on every page of this site.

Old gardens, big trees and the council's say

Noble Park was market gardens, dairy and poultry farms until after the Second World War, and most of the houses went up in the rush that followed. So the gardens are older than the suburbs further north, and many of them have a gum, a liquidambar or an elm that has grown up with the house. Before a new lawn or patio gets designed around taking one out, it pays to know who decides.

The City of Greater Dandenong has two sets of tree rules. Under its tree protection local law you need a council permit to remove any tree with a trunk 40 cm or more across, measured 1.4 metres above the ground. And since 15 September 2025 the state's canopy tree rules mean a planning permit may also be needed to remove or lop a canopy tree on a residential block. Council gives free advice on which one applies to your tree.

We look at every tree on the site visit, before the plan depends on it going. More often than not the better garden is the one built around it: a shade-tolerant lawn, beds that stop short of the root zone, and paving that sits on a base rather than a slab so the roots can keep moving.

What we build in Noble Park

Three things cover most of the jobs here. A new lawn with instant turf, a path or patio that is level and drains, and garden beds that are planted, mulched and edged so the lawn stays out of them.

What you noticeWhat's usually behind itWhat we do
Lawn is thin and mossy under the treeShade, compacted soil and roots taking the waterShade-tolerant Sir Walter Buffalo on fresh soil, with the bed line moved out past the drip of the canopy
Side path has cracked or tiltedRoots lifting a concrete slab, or pavers laid on sand with no baseLift it, build a proper road-base layer, lay sawn bluestone or concrete pavers to a fall
Beds are full of couch and kikuyu runnersNo edge between lawn and bedDig out the runners, bring in garden soil, plant, run drip line and finish with a steel or timber edge

For a lawn, we take out the old grass and weeds, level the ground and prepare the soil, then lay the turf with tight joins and roll it in. Sir Walter Buffalo is the turf we recommend most because it handles shade, and a lot of Noble Park lawns are in part shade. For a sunny front yard we'll talk you through the other varieties on our instant turf page. For paving, we work out levels and drainage before anything is dug up, and a patio is always laid to fall away from the house. For garden beds, the soft landscaping side of the job is soil, plants, drip line and mulch, in that order.

Near Mile Creek or the Dandenong Creek? Check the water first

Mile Creek runs through the middle of Noble Park and the Dandenong Creek is the suburb's eastern edge. If your block is close to either, look up your address on VicPlan before you plan anything that changes ground levels or adds a structure. Some properties near a creek carry a flooding overlay, and where one applies, works like that can need a planning permit and Melbourne Water may ask for a flood level before it signs off.

None of that stops a garden going in. It changes the order. We check where the water comes from and where it has to go at the site visit, set the levels so everyday rain runs away from the house, and connect any drain we put in to your stormwater, never over the fence.

What does landscaping cost in Noble Park?

It depends on the yard, which is why every price comes from a free visit rather than a phone call. The size of the area, access for a machine down the side, the state of the soil, drainage and the materials you pick are what move it.

JobWhat moves the price
Instant turf with soil preparationOld lawn removal, how much soil goes in, access, how much shade
PavingMaterial, the depth of the base, cutting around roots and pits
Garden beds and plantingHow much comes out, soil volume, plant sizes, drip line

Your written quote is itemised, so you can see what the lawn costs against the paving or the beds, and do the yard in stages if that suits the budget better.

How a Noble Park job runs

  1. Get in touch. Call 0489 952 492 or use the quote form, with a photo or two if you have them.
  2. Site visit. I walk the yard with you and look at access, sun and shade, the trees, drainage and what's under the surface.
  3. Written quote. Itemised, so you can see what's in it and leave something out if you need to.
  4. The build. One crew from start to finish, site kept tidy, and any change flagged before it costs you anything.
  5. Handover. We walk you through the finished job, you get a watering plan for any new lawn, and we're ten minutes away if you need us back.

Behind that, Regal is family-owned, fully insured with $5 million public liability, and has been landscaping Melbourne's south-east since 2013.

Noble Park landscaping questions

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Noble Park?

Often, yes. Greater Dandenong's local law needs a council permit for any tree with a trunk 40 cm or more across at 1.4 metres above the ground, and the canopy tree planning rules that started on 15 September 2025 can mean a planning permit as well on a residential block. We check the tree at the site visit and tell you which applies before the garden plan depends on it. Council will also advise for free.

Will a new lawn grow under my big tree?

Usually, if the right turf goes down on the right soil. Sir Walter Buffalo handles part shade better than most, and we put it on fresh soil rather than the compacted ground the old lawn died in. Under a very dense canopy we'll be honest and suggest moving the bed line out and keeping the lawn where it gets some sun.

We're near Mile Creek. Does that change what we can do in the backyard?

It can. Check your address on VicPlan for a flooding overlay. If one applies, works that raise levels or add a structure can need a planning permit and Melbourne Water may want a flood level first. Lawns, beds and paving laid to the existing levels usually go ahead as normal, and we set the falls so water runs away from the house.

Can you fix a side path that tree roots have lifted?

Yes. We lift the old path, build a proper base and lay new pavers to a fall. Where a root is the cause, paving on a compacted base copes with movement far better than a poured slab, and we keep the base clear of the main roots so the tree isn't harmed.

Do you cover Noble Park North as well?

Yes. Noble Park and Noble Park North are both in the City of Greater Dandenong, a short drive from our base in Clayton South, and both sit inside the south-east area we cover. We've quoted in Noble Park North before.

How soon can you come out to quote in Noble Park?

Usually within the week, sometimes sooner because we pass through on the way to other jobs. Send a few photos with the quote form and I'll tell you a day. Spring and summer are our busy months, so the earlier you get in touch the better the choice of dates.
